Have you ever experienced burnout? I would bet that just like me you go through phases of eating a particular food but after a while, you think to yourself “I don’t even want to look at another one of these, much less eat it!”
That’s what happened to me and design. I reached the point of design burnout and I didn’t even want to look at another design. I felt sluggish when I even attempted it.
Luckily when I was fresh out of college I learned a valuable lesson about delegation. In that moment when I was feeling sluggish and I didn’t want to keep doing this I thought to myself, “If I could find somebody who can do the parts of the business that I don't enjoy, then I could focus on the parts that I do enjoy.”
Man, was I right!!!
I tried it and when it worked I felt like I found a pot of gold! I felt like I could breathe! I was ready to keep going forever.
That is why I tell entrepreneurs that when they are struggling to keep going, the very first step should be to bring somebody else onto their team. The person you bring on will enjoy the work you don’t and they’ll probably do it better than you would.
